Top Tips Tuesday: Alternative Honeymoon Guide - When To Go Where (Part 1)

Top Tips Tuesday: Alternative Honeymoon Guide - When To Go Where (Part 1)

After yesterday's dose of pretty in the shape of a lush Moroccan wedding, it got me thinking of other beautiful destination weddings and honeymoon's, too. It's often easy to decide where you want to go, or what sort of idea's you have for picking your honeymoon however, it can be hard to weigh up when is going to be the best time of the year to visit, get the best weather, sunsets and so on.

Whether your idea of a romantic interlude involves lying together in the lap of beachfront luxury in the Maldives, diving hand-in-hand into an action-filled adventure in Thailand, or perhaps soaking in some of history’s most extraordinary moments on a cultural tour in Italy. We have it aaall.

Today, we aim to help a little with that. Picking out the best and most beautiful destinations for certain times of the year.

Want to start your year – and married life – with some sunshine? Say "Buh Bye" to England for sure! Adventurous types will marvel at New Zealand's cinematic scenery bathed in a summer glow, more restful romantics will have their hearts warmed in on the beaches in Thailand and still-warm Mexico makes a mockery of winter.

For cosier climes, and Ski lovers; the French Alps and the Colorado Rocky Mountains are in the prime of their snow-covered splendour.

Other destinations perfect for a Janurary Honeymoon are: The Maldives, Australia, and Sri Lanka.

In our books, a honeymoon in Saint Valentine's month deserves to be a special one – head to Chile and seek peace in Patagonia, safari in South Africa without stifling humidity, get more of Morocco to yourselves…

Alternatively, Seychelles provides a blissful escape with plenty for the two of you to do. Learn how to snorkel; you will find rare breeds of tortoise, crystal clear water and dazzling colourful fish. Spend your days lounging on many of the white sand beaches (of course, Mojio in hand) and pick from the many luxurious resorts to spend your nights wining and dining. Bliss.

Beware the brides of March: they'll all be flocking to Rome, Argentina and the Maldives. Instead, try a much cooler Venice, navigate to Nicaragua for its peaceful plazas and wild wonders, or get seduced by Sri Lanka's kaleidoscopic charms.

Cuba is a city break with a difference. Spend your honeymoon soaking up the old-world glamour of Havana, take a spin in a Cadillac and follow the footsteps of Hemingway. For the sake of your wardrobe, December through to April is the best bet for dry, sunny weather in the pleasant mid-20s.

April showers? Not if you're in Mexico's sun-baked, Mayan-temple-dotted Yucatán peninsula. You can't rule them out in Rome, but at least you get to spend less time in the cultural city stuck in tourist queues. Make for Malbec country in Mendoza and you'll see the vines turn golden…

Costa Rica is a little country with an almighty big heart; there are thick jungles, brooding volcanoes and deserted beaches packed into a surprisingly small space. If you and your partner are all about immersing in nature in the most sustainable way possible, this one’s more than definitely for you.

There's never a bad time to honeymoon in the Maldives but May marks the end of the Easter rush, so more pretty paradise for you. If the way to your heart is through your stomach, Provence is the place – eat cheese and drink wine to your heart's content while gazing over the late-spring blooms. Museum goers, art fiends and architecture fans will get their World Heritage fix in medieval – and mild – Malta.

Come in early June and Mallorca serves up Balearic bliss, minus the July/ August bustle – in fact, most of southern Spain gives you the scorch of summer with less of a squeeze. Go see the Yachts at Puerto Banus, or visit the famed Ocean Club of Marbella, just a few minutes down the pier.

South Africa's Garden Route is particularly verdant at this time of year, helped by day-long summer sunshine – perfect for wine-tasting and national-park hopping. And, Santorini's sunsets are worth the trip pretty much any time of year. A romantic, secluded beach holiday.
